Drawing Back the Curtain on the Mystical World

‘A mystic is one who has seen a curtain drawn back on her world and lives now in not one world but in two.’ Evelyn Underhill (1914) Practical Mysticism.

The artist draws back the curtain of the modern, urban world to reveal the imaginal world of Celtic mythology which lies beyond.

Blessed Isle

The Broighter Boat, a gold model of a Celtic ship, made 100 B.C. and found near Lough Foyle in Northern Ireland, is one of my favourite objects and its image often sails through my paintings. In this Otherworld Journey it travels on one of Lir’s sacred sea roads past the Isle of the Blessed to Scotland.
